Rolling Out Magazine Holiday Feature
Rolling Out is a media powerhouse that produces one of the largest weekly African American magazines in the US, covering the latest Black entertainment, news, culture, and more. The magazine often features the hottest celebrities and musicians, from figures like T.I., Sevyn Streeter, DJ Khaled, and Toya Wright. One of the best attributes of the publication is its frequent inclusion of HBCU news. Putting these schools in the spotlight is one of the many reasons we've come to love and respect Rolling Out. Tradition was included in Rolling Out's 2017 Holiday Gift Guide, which put us on a nationwide map for thousands of readers.
In the December 2017 edition of Rolling Out, featuring the iconic Xscape ladies on the front cover, Tradition etched its name into the magazine's history. Alongside handbags and children's items for the holiday season, Tradition was included among the 14 picks for great gifts in their yearly buying guide. The magazine says this of Tradition in the listing blurb:
Collegiate and HBCU apparel brand TRADITION has made repping your Alma mater more important and stylish than ever. TRADITION is also proud to partner with the HBCU Alumni Alliance to help advance their scholarship fund which is approaching the $1M mark. The best sellers are The Kyle sweater, The Sinclair Tunic and the Overton Hood, hence "Living Single." There's also an Obama nod with the Malia Sweater. This type of exposure has steadily emboldened Tradition as a successful black-owned business that is set on paying it forward to the schools in our apparel offerings. While specific apparel call-outs draw visitors to our online store, it also sheds light on something much bigger. By guiding their readers to Tradition, Rolling Out contributes to HBCU awareness more. Even if no purchase is made, readers will immediately recognize two things—Tradition is focused on HBCUs and giving back to these institutions is a foundational pillar for the brand. Browsing through our apparel and articles will naturally give visitors a better understanding of what we're all about. Through Rolling Out's inclusion, we're able to really showcase who we are at a national level.
The editorial also mentions our partnership with the Atlanta HBCU Alumni Alliance, which is one of our biggest and most exciting initiatives. Our objective is called the #MyHBCUGiveback Challenge, which calls on alumni and supporters alike to donate financially to boost HBCUAA's scholarship fund. There are various ways in which you can contribute to this cause, via a direct donation to a specific HBCU or to the HBCUAA. We have also created the $5 Giveback Challenge, which offers an easy way for you to donate and share the challenge among your peers. You may even donate your time should that be a more practical option. As Rolling Out says, purchases with us give back to a great cause, which is true! Every Tradition purchase gives a portion of the proceeds back to the institutions represented on the apparel.
With the support of excellent companies like Rolling Out Magazine, Tradition is growing more and more. We are grateful and humbled by these opportunities and can't wait for new ones! If you have questions about the #MyHBCUGiveback Challenge, please contact us or the HBCU Alumni Alliance for more information.
